We are The Smokin' Cardinal Sisters, A mission house for The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. A mission house is a group of nuns within a geographical region that is recognized by The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence that is still getting organized and defining the group's policies and procedures. During the mission phase, a house will also form relations with members of its community and put together events to raise funds, spread joy, and educate people. See more about out events here.

Our goal is to promulgate universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt. We are a voice for everyone within our community - even those who feel as though they are "on the fringe". As part of this goal we aim to educate members of our community on healthy ways to enjoy life and provide them with resources to do the right thing. We believe that being healthy is a great start to being happy and that all people deserve the right to be treated as equals and to be loved. Our house is a diverse group of people whose day jobs are intertwined in foreign languages, American Sign Language, the medical field, to special needs, and the computer realm. Obviously we come from very different backgrounds and we just so happen to be gay. The one unifying thread among us is our want and desire to be an active force in our community, rather than sit on the sidelines. We are a reflection of our community, and search for unity, while continuing to educate, and empower and love those around us.

We organized our efforts on Nov 12th, 2012 in Greensboro, NC and started to find our way down the path that has evolved the group into a well lubricated machine. Along the way, we've had our rough spots but we've learned a lot of great things. It's been a powerful adventure and it looks as if it will be a continual means of growing, learning, helping and loving for the years to come.

Everyone has a story. Everyone has purpose. No one else can define you. In today's world, we look to "remove the shackles" that we have been bound by.

THE greenville SISTERS

Founded in November of 2015, The Abbey of the Grand Palmetto is the newest official Mission of the Worldwide Order of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

We are dedicated to serving the people of the Upstate and bridging the divides in our communities, LGBTQI and straight.

We perform the same functions as nuns in various other faiths and traditions, albeit with slightly different vows.  We care for the sick, educate the ignorant, raise funds for the needy, and minister to those needing succor.

Welcome to the home of the Queen City Sisters, Abbey of Charlotte Von Mecklenburg.  We are a new Mission of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as of 11/21/2016.

First, people wonder whether we mock nuns or are nuns; or are we drag queens or clowns. We believe that we aren’t “like nuns”, we arenuns. We’re nuns for the LGBTQIA community (although we certainly aren’t limited to that). We care for our community the way nuns of various other faiths have cared for people throughout history. We’re here to give laughter and love, to uplift, support, guide, and educate. We just do it with much more flair, activism, and rubber sex toys.

It is our responsibility to end the stigma that surrounds our community. In order to do so, we must celebrate the differences that we each bring. This difference must be used as a light against the darkest obstacles that our community faces. This may be standing up for the rights of those who cannot stand for themselves, may be laughing in the face of danger, or may simply be through raising funds to support those in need.

Most of all we must represent our community and the common rights of those we represent all while being a judgement free group.  As the Queen City Sisters we will expose the forces of bigotry and rid the human spirit of guilt. The Nuns of this house do not reject anyone and welcome all people!
